In June 1980, at perhaps the height of their popularity, the Mojahedin attracted 150,000 sympathizers to a rally in capital. Pierre Razoux estimates MEK’s maximum strength from 1981–1983 to 1987–1988, about 15,000 fighters with a few tanks and several dozen light artillery pieces, recoilless guns, machine guns, anti-tank missiles and SAM-7s.
