The song was included in the soundtrack of the film and was Loggins’ one and only number one hit on the Adult Contemporary chart. “For the First Time” spent two weeks at number one and peaked at number sixty on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart. “For the First Time” did not make the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was the first Adult Contemporary number one not to make that chart since John Gary’s 1967 hit “Cold”.
