The most famous Austrians Who lived outside of Austria

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

He (1756 –  1791), baptised as Johannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart, was a prolific and influential composer of the Classical era. Born in Salzburg, Mozart showed prodigious ability from his earliest childhood. Already competent on keyboard and violin, he composed from the age of five and performed before European royalty.

One of the founders of quantum mechanics, Erwin Schrödinger left Austria after the rise of the Nazis. He worked in Germany, Ireland, and the UK, and spent much of his later life at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Dublin. His thought experiment, “Schrödinger’s Cat,” remains one of science’s most famous paradoxes. Born in Vienna, Hedy Lamarr escaped Europe during World War II and became a major Hollywood film star. Beyond her beauty and acting, she co-invented a frequency-hopping communication system, which later influenced modern Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technology — making her one of the most remarkable Austrian expatriates in history.
