The United Nations Partition Plan for Palestine was a proposal by the United Nations, which recommended a partition of Mandatory Palestine at the end of the British Mandate. On 29 November 1947, the UN General Assembly adopted the Plan as Resolution 181(II). Partition into separate Jewish and Arab states, with Jerusalem as an international city. The committee recommended the partition plan, which was ultimately adopted as UN General Assembly Resolution 181.
Designated as a corpus separatum, under international administration due to its religious importance to Jews, Christians, and Muslims. Jews were given a larger portion of land despite being only one-third of the population. Arabs argued this was unfair and violated principles of self-determination. The plan proposed a shared economic union, including joint currency, trade, and infrastructure management, to ensure cooperation between the two states.
