The United Nations Partition Plan for Palestine was a proposal by the United Nations, which recommended a partition of Mandatory Palestine at the end of the British Mandate. On 29 November 1947, the UN General Assembly adopted the Plan as Resolution 181(II). Minority populations in each state were to be protected, with guarantees for religious freedom and property rights. Accepted the plan, seeing it as the first step toward the establishment of a Jewish homeland.
Rejected the plan outright, claiming it violated their majority rights and was imposed by international powers. Arab states, including Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria, opposed it and prepared for military intervention. Supported by the United States and the Soviet Union. Britain officially remained neutral but facilitated the transition of power.
