İbrahim Tatlıses was born in Urfa (Şanlıurfa), in the southeast of Turkey. He is of mixed Arab–Kurdish ancestry.Kurdish is his mother tongue. He lost his father during childhood, and did not attend high school. He did not know how to read or write growing up.
