Pahlbod studied architecture in Switzerland and in the late 1950s became the vice president of the Persian Fine Arts Administration in capaital; an organisation which later became the Persian Ministry of Culture. Pahlbod introduced modern museum practices, developed art schools, and encouraged contemporary artists to engage with international movements without losing their national identity.
By inviting world-renowned performers, musicians, and visual artists, he created opportunities for cultural exchange, helping audiences experience global perspectives and for foreign audiences to appreciate arts. One of Pahlbod’s crowning achievements, the Shiraz Arts Festival, became a symbol of cultural renaissance. Launched in the 1960s, the festival featured avant-garde performances, traditional Persian music, opera, modern dance, and visual arts exhibitions.
