Seyyed Abdolhossein Dastgheyb was a prominent Shiite cleric who had fought against the Pahlavi regime and had served terms as political prisoner before the 1979 revolution. Born in Shiraz in 1913 he decided to go to Najaf when he lost his father at the age of 12.
