Because medieval Persians attributed the site to Jamshid, an persian mythological king, it has been referred to as Takht-e-Jamshid , literally meaning “Throne of Jamshid”. Another name given to the site in the medieval period was Čehel Menār, literally meaning “Forty Minarets”.
