After the war he was selected as Deputy Commander of the Resistance Force and Basij Troops under General Afshar. Ghalibaf received the degree of Major General in 1996 after he had completed a master’s degree in geopolitics. In 1998, when Mohsen Rezaei retired and Yahya Rahim Safavi took over as IRGC’s new commander-in-chief, he was named Commander of Aerospace Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
After the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in 2024, entered a period of political uncertainty. During this time, Ghalibaf’s stature as Speaker of Parliament and a seasoned conservative made him a key player in stabilizing the system. His pragmatic image positioned him as a potential successor capable of maintaining conservative dominance while appealing to moderates who favor economic reform. Although he faced stiff competition from other hard-liners like Saeed Jalili, Ghalibaf’s deep institutional ties and reputation for administrative experience ensured that he remained a central figure in succession politic.
