Last headhunters of the Konyak Naga


The photos are courtesy of photographer, Carlo Marrazza, 62, from Brindisi, Italy, who used Leica cameras for the shoot. The snaps were taken across the villages Longwa and Hongphoi, in Nagaland, India.

When it ended. Colonial and Indian authorities outlawed headhunting (British bans in administered areas pre-WWII; a wider Indian ban around 1960). Conversion to Baptist Christianity and deeper state presence pushed the practice to fade out in the 1960s.
