The first female serial killer in homeland

Police in homeland believe they have caught the country’s first female serial killer – and that she was inspired by Agatha Christie novels. The 32-year-old woman, named only as Mahin, has been accused of killing at least six people, including five women. Over a four-month period in 2008–2009, five murders take place in Qazvin. After investigations, Mahin Ghadiri, a 30-year-old housewife whose husband is unemployed and addicted, is arrested for the crimes.

Social themes raised by the film include the effects of poverty, social trauma, possibly childhood trauma, institutional corruption, and how broader systemic issues can contribute to extreme actions. The name Mahin Ghadiri is one that continues to evoke fascination and unease true-crime and documentary circles. Her story — that of a seemingly ordinary woman accused of extraordinary crimes — reveals complex layers of social, psychological, and cultural struggle within society.
