The first female serial killer in homeland

After offering her victims a lift, Mahin allegedly gave them fruit juice which she had spiked with an anaesthetic to knock them out.She would then suffocate them before stealing their jewellery and other possessions and dumping the bodies in secluded spots. One victim was beaten to death with an iron bar after regaining consciousness. Officers suspected the killer was a woman after studying a footprint near one of the bodies.

Directed by Elnaz Ahmadi, the documentary Mahin reopens the case not to sensationalize, but to understand. Through interviews, dramatizations, and psychological insight, the film dissects how a woman like Mahin — an educated, intelligent person with a seemingly ordinary life — could transform into a killer. Ahmadi’s approach humanizes Mahin without justifying her actions. The documentary shows her as both victim and villain — a tragic figure whose life became a case study in moral collapse and systemic neglect.
