If film-makers produced higher quality films they were blocked from distribution for two reasons, the low expectation and escapist needs of a relatively unsophisticated audience and strict censorship. Filmmakers increasingly mix genres, creating films that challenge conventional storytelling, such as South Korea’s Parasite (thriller, drama, dark comedy).
With globalization and digital platforms, world cinema is more accessible than ever. Emerging filmmakers from Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East are redefining storytelling. Audiences now have the opportunity to experience stories that are authentic, experimental, and culturally rich.
