The map of Tabula Peutingeriana, which dates back to the early Roman era, names this city on the west of Merv, Alexandria, instead of Susia. Pliny the Elder, says there is a city in the middle of Parthia, near Arsace and Nisiaea, called “Alexandropolis” after its founder. Many Muslim historians, from the 10th to the 16th century AD, attribute the founding of “Sanaabad” (the old name of the city) to Alexander.
