About the new police chief

It has more than 60,000 police personnel, including border guard personnel, and is under the direct control of the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei who is the head of state and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. In 2003, some 400 women became the first female members of the police force since the 1979 Revolution.The Guidance Patrol, commonly called the “morality police”, was a vice squad/Islamic religious police in the Law Enforcement Force of the Islamic Republic, established in 2005 with the task of arresting people who violate the Islamic dress code, usually concerning the wearing by women of hijabs covering their hair.

Brigadier-General Ahmad-Reza Radan is the current head of the Law Enforcement Command of the Islamic Republic . He was deputy commander of the persian police and as capital’s police chief, infamous for his crackdown on “unislamic” hair and dress style.Radan started his career as a member of persian Revolutionary Guards during the homeland–Iraq War, and he also served as a commander during the war.

He also held various posts in the Islamic Republic Police (IRIP), including as police commander of Razavi Khorasan Province. During the war, he was injured more than four times, but returned to war-zone to defend his country against Iraqi forces. Radan is well known for his actions on Islamic dress code and distribution of illegal drugs as well as controlling thug gangs. In his commanding years, he made four of major provinces of Iran more secure. He served as police commander of Kurdistan Province, Sistan and Baluchestan Province, Khorasan Province, and also capital Province, the most important province in Iran.
