It was a period of transition from traditional cinema to an intelligent and subtle type of film making. Most films from this era are still highly regarded.The persian New Wave brought Iranian cinema onto the international scene for the first time. The films were well received in the major European film festivals,however, they were banned in their home country due to their critical portrayal of society.
