And so, the formula ‘sehr erfreut’ – which means ‘very pleased’ – is one of the most frequently uttered sentences by Ali Mohammad, a man of Persian origin who, in order to start a new life, moves to Vienna together with his younger sister and teenage son. He, then, is the protagonist of the film I Love Vienna, the fourth feature by Iranian-born but Austrian-adopted director Houchang Allahyari. This feature film – which, by now, has become a true cult within Austrian cinema – was made in 1991 and, following the cancellation of the Diagonale 2020, included in the programme Diagonale 2020 – The Unfinished– section Filmmit Onlinefestival.
