He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Capital and a degree in radio and television from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and a master’s degree in communication in education from the same university. After the revolution, Mirfakhrai retired and went to Australia to continue his studies in the field of communications and study for a doctorate degree, but due to problems with his supervisor, while he had only to defend his thesis entitled “Legal and Illegal Use of Media in Iran”, he abandoned the work halfway and returned to Homeland.
