Mehdi Rezaei, famous for the red flower of the revolution

Torture and Execution

Following his trial, Mehdi Rezaei was subjected to further torture by SAVAK, the Shah’s secret police. The regime hoped to extract more information from him about the activities of the PMOI and its members. However, Mehdi remained resolute, refusing to betray his comrades or provide any information that could be used against the organization.

The torture he endured was brutal and relentless, but Mehdi’s spirit remained unbroken. His courage in the face of such adversity only served to further cement his status as a hero among those who opposed the Shah’s regime. Ultimately, the regime decided that Mehdi Rezaei’s continued existence was too great a threat to their power, and they sentenced him to death.

On September 7, 1972 (Shahrivar 16, 1351), the press announced that Mehdi Rezaei had been executed by firing squad after being sentenced to death three times in the court of first instance and the military appeal. His execution took place in the infamous Chitgar shooting range, a location that would later become synonymous with the regime’s brutal repression of political dissidents.
