Behind the scenes of the film Report

Shohreh Aghdashloo’s Performance

Shohreh Aghdashloo’s portrayal of Azam is a standout element of the film. In one of her earliest roles, Aghdashloo brings depth and nuance to her character, capturing both her quiet resilience and moments of vulnerability. Her performance hints at the remarkable career she would go on to have, eventually earning international acclaim and an Academy Award nomination.

Reception and Legacy

Upon its release, The Report was not widely recognized, partly due to its limited distribution and the sociopolitical climate of Iran in the late 1970s. However, over time, the film has gained appreciation among critics and cinephiles for its raw emotional honesty and Kiarostami’s signature style of storytelling.

In 2016, following Abbas Kiarostami’s death, The Report was screened at a memorial event held at the Iranian Artists’ House. This rare screening allowed a new generation of viewers to experience the film. However, a one-minute scene was omitted due to censorship restrictions, reflecting the ongoing challenges of presenting unvarnished narratives in contemporary Homeland.
