Decline and Neglect
Despite its architectural brilliance and historical significance, the Abali Hotel’s decline began shortly after the revolution. The hotel, once a thriving cultural and hospitality center, was left to deteriorate under the care of various organizations. The Foundation for the Oppressed and Veterans, which took control of the property after the revolution, failed to maintain and preserve the building. The Tehran Provincial Tourism Organization, which was also responsible for promoting tourism in the region, did not step in to safeguard the hotel either.
As a result, the hotel slowly fell into disrepair. Many of its original decorations, architectural features, and elements of its design were removed and displaced without any regard for their historical value. The building’s once-grand hallways and rooms, which once hosted guests from around the world, became empty and abandoned. The furniture, artifacts, and decorative elements that gave the hotel its character were moved outside the premises, often discarded or left exposed to the elements.
Local residents, some of whom were involved in the construction of the hotel as workers, express their frustration and sadness over the neglect of such an important cultural monument. They recall the days when the hotel was a symbol of progress and pride for the region, and they lament the state of decay that the building now faces. The lack of action from the relevant authorities has led to widespread disappointment among the people of Abali and beyond, who feel that their heritage is being lost due to neglect and mismanagement.
