The opening of the 43rd Fajr International Theater Festival

From the 26th edition onward, a hybrid model was introduced, combining both previously performed works and new productions crafted specifically for the festival. This approach allowed for a more comprehensive representation of Iran’s theatrical landscape, offering audiences a mix of seasoned performances and fresh, innovative productions.

Controversies and Opinions

The festival has not been without its share of controversies and differing opinions within the Iranian theater community. In the 31st edition, many notable writers and directors who had previously won awards in earlier editions were absent. Maryam Mutafrah, the director of the street theater section of the festival, has emphasized the importance of having experienced professionals participate alongside young artists to ensure a valuable learning experience. She argues that the absence of seasoned professionals could deprive young artists of mentorship opportunities.
