Ahmad Khomeini in the picture frame

Interrogation records of former security officials implicated in the serial murders suggest that they viewed Seyyed Ahmad Khomeini as a liability due to his political views. One high-ranking official reportedly remarked that Khomeini had “entered a one-way path from which there was no return.” These confessions, however, were obtained under duress, making their credibility questionable. Several of those interrogated later recanted their statements, claiming they had been tortured into falsely admitting their involvement in foreign plots, including collaborations with the CIA and Mossad.

Adding to the skepticism, Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, in his memoirs, dismissed the rumors surrounding Ahmad Khomeini’s death, attributing them to counter-revolutionary propaganda. He also accused foreign media, such as Israel Radio, of fueling these speculations.

In 2010, Mehdi Karroubi, a reformist political figure, reignited interest in the case. Following the disruption of Seyyed Hassan Khomeini’s speech during an anniversary event for Ruhollah Khomeini, Karroubi issued a veiled threat. He warned that if such disruptions continued, he would disclose information about the true circumstances of Seyyed Ahmad Khomeini’s demise. His statement further fueled suspicions regarding the cause of death.
