The best musician in the history of Persian music has passed away

Despite his immense contributions to Iranian music, Mahjoubi’s final years were marked by obscurity and loneliness. On the last day of the Persian year 1343 (March 20, 1965), just an hour before the arrival of the new year, he passed away in solitude. Due to the Nowruz celebrations, the news of his death was kept secret for a week. After the 13th of Farvardin, he was laid to rest in the Zahir al-Dawla cemetery in Tir-e-Turab. In accordance with his wishes, the esteemed singer Ali Akbar Golpaygani performed at his gravesite, honoring the legacy of a man who had profoundly shaped Persian music.

Morteza Mahjoubi’s life and work remain a testament to the fusion of innovation and tradition. His ability to transform the piano into a Persian instrument, his unmatched skill in both performance and composition, and his dedication to preserving Iranian musical heritage make him an enduring icon in the history of Iranian music.
