Sidenotes from the commemoration of the martyrs of authority

“We gather in this mosque that bears the name of our founding Imam, to remember those whose blood nurtures the roots of our republic. These are not ordinary lives lost—they are the sentinels of our dignity, our deterrence, and our justice.”

Pezhakian praised the diversity of the martyrs—from rural Basij volunteers to senior scientists and seasoned generals—highlighting how the cause of national authority transcends socioeconomic and institutional boundaries. He emphasized the need for unity among all branches of government, and between the state and the people, to honor the sacrifices made.

“We do not honor martyrs by merely recounting their names or erecting statues. We honor them by building a government of ethics, efficiency, and honesty. A government where no orphan sleeps hungry and no widow stands alone at the courthouse.”

Pezhakian’s call for administrative reform, transparency, and a stronger social safety net resonated with the crowd, especially as the country grapples with economic hardships and international pressures.
