Clean Energy Milestone: Kazakhstan Signs ECO Clean Energy Charter

One of the most celebrated moments of the summit was the signing of the Charter of the ECO Clean Energy Center by the Republic of Kazakhstan. The center, headquartered in Baku, will serve as a regional hub for:

  • Coordinating joint renewable energy projects

  • Supporting member states in green energy financing

  • Facilitating technology transfer and regulatory harmonization

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan lauded this development, calling it “a critical milestone for our collective energy future.”

Geopolitical and Economic Implications

The Khankendi Summit comes at a time of shifting global dynamics. The conclusion of several regional conflicts, the re-emergence of transport corridors like the Middle Corridor (connecting China, Central Asia, the Caucasus, and Europe), and the global climate emergency have elevated ECO’s relevance.

The summit’s focus on trade facilitation, transport corridors, and digital cooperation aligned well with global trends. Azerbaijan’s emphasis on developing multi-modal logistics hubs and smart trade routes—including the Zangezur Corridor—resonated strongly with landlocked member states such as Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

Moreover, the participation of non-member observers and guests like Nigeria and the UAE hinted at growing interest in ECO’s strategic potential as a bridge between Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
