A Journey from Agricultural Engineering to the Newsroom

Born in 1984 in Tehran, Sahar Emami did not initially set out for a career in journalism. She pursued higher education in agricultural engineering, focusing specifically on food industry sciences — a field far removed from the media world she would later enter. In interviews, Emami has frequently emphasized this unexpected transition, noting that her academic background had little to do with the profession she would ultimately embrace.

Despite lacking formal training in journalism, Emami’s career in broadcasting began in 2008, a time when Iran’s state-run media was navigating both technological modernization and increasing political control. She entered without relying on connections or influential acquaintances, a fact she often highlights with pride. Her pathway into the IRIB exemplified, in her view, a merit-based success founded on hard work and an enduring passion for media.Throughout the years, she gradually established herself as a familiar face on Iran’s national television — a remarkable feat in a media environment where trust, loyalty to the establishment, and professional competence are all under constant scrutiny.
