Government artists visit the ruins of the television building

The Personal Side of a Public Figure

Away from the bright lights of the newsroom, Sahar Emami’s personal life has been quietly stable. Married for several years, she is a mother to a young son. Her husband, notably, is also a journalist, though his work remains largely outside the high-profile realm of state television. Unlike many in her profession, Emami has kept her private life largely away from the public eye, maintaining a professional image centered on her role as a news presenter.

The Attack That Changed Everything — June 16, 1404

On June 16, 1404 (July 7, 2025), the course of Emami’s career—and indeed the history of the IRIB—was marked by an unprecedented event. In a surprise military operation, Israel launched a missile attack on the Glass Building of the IRIB, the political and news nerve center located in Tehran’s Jam Jam Complex on Vali Asr Street.

The building, a renowned work of Iranian architect Abdolaziz Farmanfarmaian, had stood since post-revolutionary Iran as the headquarters for the head of the organization, the political deputy, and all key news and editorial operations of the IRIB. Known simply as the Glass Building, it was not just an architectural symbol but the beating heart of Iran’s political media machine.
