Therefore, Mohammad Reza Shah issued a decree in that year, appointing him as the Iranian consul general in Istanbul with the mission of Istanbul and the western provinces of Turkey, and asked the authorities to cooperate with him to the fullest extent. This was the first order that the 42-year-old olive-skinned Mirfundarsky had received from the Shah. He was now a fully-fledged and seasoned diplomat, familiar with all the techniques of diplomacy and its fundamentals and legal issues. Upon his return from the Turkish mission, he worked in the economic and political departments. But it was not long before Mohammad Reza Pahlavi appointed him as the political director general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1963. Membership in Freemasonry and Grand Ambassador At the thirtieth joint meeting of the masters of the Masonic lodges held in Tehran on Sunday, June 21, 1963, Ahmad Mirfundarsky became a member of the Tehran Lodge upon the introduction of Dr. Kazemi and Dr. Khashayar.[6] The following year, Mohammad Reza Shah appointed him to the rank of Grand Ambassador in a decree; A rank that was considered superior to Director General in the Foreign Ministry hierarchy: “In view of the honest and competent services that Mr. Ahmad Mirfundarski, the Political Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has shown in various positions, we hereby honor the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by granting him the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
