Warm Welcome in Islamabad
After the cultural and symbolic engagements in Lahore, President Pezhakian proceeded to Islamabad, where he was greeted with a formal reception by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif at Nur Khan Airbase. The ceremonial welcome included an honor guard, the playing of national anthems, and a state luncheon at the Prime Minister House.
In his welcoming address, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the historical, religious, and cultural affinities between Iran and Pakistan, stating, “Our people are linked by centuries of shared traditions, trade routes, and kinship across borders. This visit reflects the depth of our relationship and our collective desire to further elevate it.”
President Pezhakian responded by noting, “Pakistan and Iran are more than neighbors; we are brothers united by faith, language, and a vision for a peaceful and prosperous region. I am confident this visit will yield substantive outcomes for both our nations.”
Economic Engagement: Trade and Infrastructure
One of the cornerstones of this diplomatic mission is the enhancement of bilateral trade, which despite strong cultural ties, has remained well below its potential. Currently hovering around $2 billion annually, trade between the two nations faces hurdles including banking limitations, customs delays, and infrastructural deficits.
