News of his death prompted widespread mourning in Iran’s cultural circles. Artists, academics, political figures, and ordinary citizens paid tribute to the man who had revitalized a centuries-old art form.
Legacy: Museums, Universities, and Media
In 2002, the Mahmoud Farshchian Museum was inaugurated within the Saad Abad Palace complex in Tehran, housing over 50 of his works. This institution became a center for studying and appreciating his art, attracting both Iranian and foreign visitors.
On October 20, 2018, the Mahmoud Farshchian University of Islamic-Iranian Arts—sometimes called the “Father Farshchian University”—was established as part of the Islamic Azad University network, ensuring that his educational legacy would continue.
Farshchian’s life and work have been documented in multiple books and articles, as well as in the documentary film Lover, directed by Hamid Kaviani and featuring celebrated Iranian actors Ezatollah Entezami and Parviz Pourhosseini. The film’s screening coincided with the unveiling of his fifth book.
