The Beginning of a Professional Career (1955–1960)
Aghili’s professional career officially began in 1955, when he recorded and performed his first song, “Saqinamah”, composed by Esmaeil Mehrtash. The song quickly brought him attention, not only for the clarity of his voice but also for his ability to interpret poetry with musical sensitivity.
The mid-1950s was a transformative time in Iranian music. Radio was becoming the primary medium through which artists could reach the public, and young talents like Aghili found opportunities to share the stage—at least in the airwaves—with more established figures. Aghili was invited to perform in programs that brought together masters like Morteza Hananeh and Hossein Ghavami, an early recognition of his emerging stature.
Perhaps one of the most significant early moments of his career came when he was invited to perform at the opening ceremony of Iranian Television. His inclusion in such a prestigious event reflected his growing reputation. Singing live on this occasion, he demonstrated the ability to adapt his style to different audiences while remaining faithful to the traditions he had learned.
