The Taj (Esteghlal) Sports and Cultural Organization
Perhaps Khosravani’s most enduring legacy was his role in shaping Iranian sports culture through the Taj Club, which later became Esteghlal F.C.
In 1945, Khosravani purchased the Cyclists’ Club, rebranding it as Taj (Crown) Sports and Cultural Organization. Under his leadership, Taj developed into one of the most successful and wealthy sports institutions in the world before the 1979 revolution. The club was not limited to football but encompassed a wide range of athletic and cultural activities, including women’s sports, basketball, volleyball, and wrestling.
Taj’s football team became a powerhouse, winning domestic championships and achieving international success. The highlight came in 1977, when Taj won the Asian Club Championship, a triumph that placed Iranian football at the forefront of Asian sports.
