In 1969, many of Shahin’s former stars, including Hossein Kalani, joined the newly established Paykan football club, founded and sponsored by Iran National Company (the manufacturer of the Paykan automobile). Under the guidance of coach Parviz Dehdari, Paykan sought to recreate Shahin’s spirit and discipline while aligning itself with Iran’s growing industrial identity.
Kalani immediately made his mark. In his first season, he became the top scorer of the league, leading Paykan to victories over Taj (later Esteghlal) in both home and away matches. His performance solidified his reputation as one of the sharpest forwards in Iranian football. Beyond goals, he brought leadership, mentorship, and tactical depth to a team that was still finding its identity.
Transition to Persepolis and Peak Performance
In 1969, Kalani joined Persepolis FC, a club that would become synonymous with passion and resilience in Iranian football history. Persepolis had emerged as a new powerhouse, inheriting much of Shahin’s philosophy and fanbase. With Kalani, Homayoun Behzadi, and several former Shahin players, Persepolis quickly established itself as one of the strongest clubs in the country.
