Seyyed Majid Bani Fatemeh: The Voice of Devotion in Contemporary Iran

Seyyed Majid Bani Fatemeh (Persian: سید مجید بنی فاطمه; born 1977, Tehran) is one of Iran’s most renowned and beloved madhhab reciters (maddah) and eulogists of the Ahl al-Bayt. Known widely by his affectionate nickname “Amo Abbas”, he has been active in religious eulogies and mourning ceremonies since 1992 and has earned national recognition for his emotional, poetic, and spiritually charged performances. For over three decades, Bani Fatemeh has been a defining voice in Iran’s mourning rituals, particularly during Muharram and Safar, when millions of Iranians commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein and his companions in Karbala.
