Abdullah Taleh Hamedani, one of the most prominent Iranian Jews

The Alliance School in Hamedan was one of the best of its kind, producing many figures who would later shape Iranian intellectual and artistic life. Among its alumni were the Neydavoud brothers (notably Morteza Neydavoud, the famed composer), the Mahjoubi brothers, Seyyed Karim Amiri, Firouz Kouhi, and Mirzadeh Eshghi, one of Iran’s most renowned revolutionary poets. In this stimulating environment, Abdullah Taleh not only learned Persian and Hebrew but also acquired a solid foundation in French, English, and general sciences—an education that set him apart from his contemporaries.

After completing his primary education at the Alliance School, Taleh entered the Sherqeer School of Hamedan, another institution known for its innovative teaching of Persian language and literature. However, his intellectual curiosity and linguistic appetite soon led him back to the Alliance, where the study of French and English opened new horizons. By the time he reached the third grade of secondary school, Hamedan had no institutions offering higher education, forcing him, like many ambitious young men of his generation, to pursue self-education and eventually turn toward commerce to make a living.
