“Khalil Oqab” surprised people at the officer academy!

This innovation marked a turning point. Strength was no longer limited to religious spaces or festivals—it became a form of popular culture accessible to a wide audience. Khalil understood that performance required storytelling, rhythm, music, and drama. His shows were carefully choreographed, blending suspense with spectacle.

This approach laid the foundation for what would eventually become the Iranian circus tradition.

Introducing Wild Animals to Iranian Performance

Another groundbreaking achievement was Khalil Oqab’s decision to incorporate trained wild animals into his shows. At a time when such performances were unheard of in Iran, he traveled to India, where he acquired lions and bears, learning how to train them safely and professionally.

Bringing these animals to Iran was a logistical and cultural challenge. Khalil personally oversaw their training and transportation, ensuring that they could perform alongside human artists. When audiences first witnessed these animals on stage, it added an entirely new dimension to Iranian entertainment.

This fusion of human strength, animal training, and theatrical presentation effectively created the first recognizable Iranian circus.
