Under his father’s supervision, the young Shajarian learned to treat the Quran not as a performance text but as a sacred responsibility. Every verse required humility, accuracy, and emotional sincerity. These principles later became central to his musical ethics.
At the age of 12, Mohammad Reza Shajarian began reciting the Quran on Mashhad Radio, marking his first public exposure through sound. His voice, still youthful, already displayed exceptional control and clarity.
Mashhad Radio and Early Recognition
Throughout his teenage years, Shajarian remained an honorary Quran reciter for Mashhad Radio. His recitations gained recognition for their clarity, emotional restraint, and deep respect for tradition. Unlike some reciters who emphasized vocal ornamentation, Shajarian focused on meaning, articulation, and spiritual atmosphere.
This early experience with radio broadcasting was crucial. It familiarized him with microphones, studio discipline, and the ethics of addressing a wide, unseen audience—skills that later served him in his singing career.
