Dariush Asadzadeh was born on December 1, 1923, in Kermanshah, where his father was stationed due to military service. Although his place of birth was a provincial city, his family roots were tied to the capital, where his father had been born and raised. As the first child in a family with four children—two sisters and a brother—he carried early responsibilities and expectations.
The family remained in Kermanshah until he was five years old, after which they relocated permanently to the capital in 1928. This move proved decisive for Asadzadeh’s future, as it placed him in an urban environment where access to education, theaters, and cultural institutions was significantly greater. He completed his primary education at Targhai Elementary School and continued his studies at the prestigious Dar al-Fonun high school, an institution long associated with intellectual formation and modernization.
Following high school, he enrolled in the Faculty of Commerce and Finance. This academic path was largely chosen to satisfy family expectations, particularly those of his father, who envisioned a stable bureaucratic or military career for his son. Yet, even as he pursued formal education in economics and administration, his true interests were already firmly aligned with the arts.
