He later traveled to Najaf, Iraq, another major hub of Shiite learning, where he continued his studies during the years 1369 and 1370 AH (lunar calendar). Exposure to the Najaf seminary tradition broadened his scholarly perspective and connected him with a wider network of Shiite scholars. After completing his studies, he returned to Iran and resumed teaching in Qom, eventually offering advanced and dars-e kharij (external) level courses.


Teaching Career and Influence in Qom Seminary

Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi’s teaching career spans several decades. His classes in jurisprudence and principles have consistently attracted large numbers of students. Today, his courses are among the most well-attended in the Qom Seminary, with more than 2,000 students reportedly participating. This level of attendance reflects both his scholarly reputation and his ability to present complex legal issues in a clear and systematic manner.

Beyond formal teaching, he has played a significant role in shaping seminary institutions. He has been involved in establishing and supervising educational and research centers, including the Imam Kazem Fiqh School, the Specialized Center for Shiite Studies, and the Velayat Network. These institutions aim to combine traditional religious education with modern research methods and media outreach.
