Festival Structure and Categories
The Fajr International Film Festival is structured around several categories that reflect different genres, themes, and artistic approaches. One of the most important aspects of the festival is its competitive section, which includes categories such as Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Actress, among others. These awards are highly regarded within the country’s film industry and are seen as prestigious honors for filmmakers and performers.
In addition to these competitive categories, the festival also includes special screenings, masterclasses, and panels, where industry experts, filmmakers, and scholars come together to discuss the future of cinema, trends in filmmaking, and the impact of global events on the cinematic landscape. This intellectual exchange is a central part of the festival, as it fosters a deeper understanding of the medium and its role in society.
The International Competition section, which features films from around the world, is one of the most eagerly anticipated parts of the festival. Films entered into this section must meet specific eligibility criteria, including not having premiered in certain regions such as Central Asia, Caucasia, or Anatolia (with the exception of the country of origin). The festival seeks to showcase high-quality international films that push the boundaries of storytelling and cinematography, offering a platform for filmmakers who may not have access to mainstream international distribution channels.
