Opening of the Fajr Film Festival

Eligibility and Submission Guidelines

To ensure a high standard of films, the festival has specific eligibility rules for entries into its competitive sections. One of the key requirements is that films must not have premiered in certain regions prior to their submission to the festival. This ensures that the event can introduce fresh and unseen works to audiences. Additionally, films must have been completed within a specific time frame, with entries for the international competition generally required to have been completed in the years 2019 to 2020. Popular Genre Films, Documentaries, and Special Screenings are also subject to specific time constraints for their completion.

Feature films submitted to the festival must have a minimum running time of 70 minutes, while short films must not exceed 15 minutes in length. This rule ensures that the festival has a broad representation of both long-form and short-form cinema, allowing filmmakers with varying resources and storytelling ambitions to showcase their work.

Moreover, the festival does not accept films that have already been submitted in previous editions. This rule is designed to maintain the novelty and excitement of each year’s program, ensuring that each edition of the festival introduces a fresh selection of films to the audience.
