Fawakherji’s formal education began at Damascus University, where he enrolled in the Faculty of Arts to study archaeology, a field that would deepen his connection to the cultural and historical significance of Syria’s past. Alongside his studies in archaeology, Fawakherji pursued his passion for art by attending the Adham Ismail Institute of Fine Arts, where he honed his skills in sculpture and fine arts. The Beginning of His Artistic Career: From Actor to Director
Fawakherji’s entry into the world of acting began during his third year at university. At the age of 19, he was cast in his first major role in the film Al-Tarhal (1997), marking the beginning of a career that would span across multiple genres and media platforms. His early work showcased his versatility as an actor, and he quickly became a well-known face in Syrian and Arab television and cinema.
As he gained recognition for his acting, Fawakherji began to branch out into directing, expanding his creative horizons. In 2015, he made his directorial debut with the film Cherry Messages, which was showcased at the Alexandria Film Festival. The film, which dealt with themes of love, loss, and human connection, received critical acclaim for its sensitive portrayal of emotional depth and its visual storytelling. This marked a significant milestone in Fawakherji’s career, establishing him as not only an actor but also a director capable of shaping the direction of Arab cinema.
