As a member of the Qom Seminary Teachers’ Association, he contributed to planning demonstrations and disseminating proclamations. He maintained contact with networks such as the Society of Combatant Clergy and remained informed about developments in Qom, Najaf, and other centers of religious activism. His activities attracted the attention of security forces. Over the years, he faced repeated threats, interrogations, and arrests. He was imprisoned three times, spending a total of approximately three months behind bars, and at one point was exiled for three years to Asadabad in Hamedan Province. These experiences reinforced his opposition to the monarchy and strengthened his reputation among revolutionary circles.

When the 1979 revolution succeeded in overthrowing the Pahlavi dynasty, he quickly assumed new responsibilities in the emerging political order. One of his first roles was as a judge in the Revolutionary Court system established to prosecute officials associated with the previous regime. According to accounts from that period, including the memoirs of Sadegh Khalkhali, he received instructions from Ruhollah Khomeini to oversee trials of individuals accused of severe abuses under the former government. In interviews reflecting on those early months, he stated that decisions were made according to what he and his colleagues understood as general Islamic principles, and that they often consulted with the revolutionary leadership on sensitive cases.
