At the heart of the Verba system lies the 9M336 missile, which incorporates a new guidance and control section. The most notable innovation is its three-color, multi-spectral optical thermal seeker. Unlike older systems that relied on single-band infrared homing, Verba’s seeker operates in three spectral regions:
-
Ultraviolet (UV)
-
Near-infrared (NIR)
-
Mid-infrared (MIR)
This multi-spectral capability enhances resistance to countermeasures such as flares and decoys. By analyzing emissions across multiple wavelengths, the seeker can more effectively distinguish genuine targets from thermal interference.
The missile is equipped with a 1.5 kg high-explosive fragmentation warhead, designed to maximize lethality upon impact or proximity detonation. The improved seeker and warhead combination increases the probability of successful engagement against low-radar and low-thermal-signature targets.
Operational Performance
The 9M336 missile is capable of engaging aerial targets flying at speeds of up to 500 meters per second. It operates effectively at altitudes ranging from 10 meters to 4.5 kilometers and can strike targets at distances between 500 meters and 6,500 meters.
