Special Police Forces in Tehran: FARAJA, NOPO Units, and Public Security Convoys

Introduction

Iran’s internal security system includes several specialized law enforcement units operating under the Law Enforcement Command of the Islamic Republic of Iran (FARAJA). Among the most recognized components are the Special Units Command, riot control forces, and the elite counter-terrorism branch known as NOPO (Special Operations Unit).

In major cities such as Tehran, these forces are frequently deployed for crowd control, security demonstrations, national ceremonies, and counter-terrorism readiness operations.
