Ahmad Zeidabadi has been arrested several times previously
for the peaceful expression of his opinions. Amnesty
International campaigned for his release when he was
detained in 2000 and 2001 in connection with articles
he wrote.
In 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014, Zeid-Abadi was granted short furloughs after posting bail, according to news websites. He was awarded the UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize in 2011 and the World Association of Newspapers’ Golden Pen of Freedom Award in 2010.
