Javad Larijani was born in Najaf, Iraq, into the prominent Larijani family, which has produced several well-known political and public figures in Iran. After moving, he pursued higher education in mathematics and developed a strong interest in both scientific research and public policy. His academic background helped establish his reputation as a scholar before he entered government service.
Throughout his career, he has continued to support research and higher education alongside his political activities. Larijani has held numerous positions within the government. During the 1980s and 1990s, he served in the Parliament (Majlis), where he participated in legislative discussions on domestic and foreign policy issues.
