Bani Sadr’s election slogans
Bani Sadr had introduced himself in his campaign posters as “the true friend of the Imam” and “the supporter of the revolution of the inheritors of the earth”; he had not used “freedom”, “democracy” and “national sovereignty”. However, he had proposed “political justice” and “real security, not police security”, along with “preserving and promoting Islamic culture”, which could be close to political development. It seems that the failure to explicitly raise the issues that later led to his confrontation with Khomeini or the “real republic” with the “unrepublican republic” was Bani Sadr’s plan to avoid inflaming Khomeini.
Enactment of the presidency
After assuming the presidency, Bani Sadr had set goals such as reorganizing the centers of power, gradually removing the Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Revolutionary Courts and committees from the periphery and integrating them into other government organizations, reducing the influence of the clergy, and also creating a plan for the country’s economic development. Ruhollah Khomeini allowed Banisadr to receive his presidential decree before the parliament convened in Bahman 1358 and by taking the oath, and during the inauguration ceremony, he asked him in a short speech that there would be no difference in his moral character between before and after the presidency.
